Orthodontics:
who is it for?

Adult Orthodontics

Orthodontic correction in adults aims to treat issues related to tooth positioning and anatomical conditions, such as joint and muscle problems.
More and more adults are turning to orthodontic specialists to improve the appearance of their smile and the functionality of their bite.
Adult aesthetic requests often involve problems such as crowded, overlapping, spaced, or protruding teeth.
It is important to note that teeth can be moved at any stage of life using the same techniques applied during childhood and adolescence.
Thanks to new aesthetic or invisible devices, orthodontics can offer adults the chance to achieve a renewed smile

Child Orthodontics

While sharing the same therapeutic goals as adult orthodontics, pediatric orthodontics aims to prevent alignment problems and address skeletal growth alterations of the upper jaw and lower jaw.
Among the most common skeletal conditions in children are upper jaw contraction and insufficient mandibular development.
Often, children with such conditions exhibit habits like thumb-sucking and frequent respiratory problems, accompanied by an open-mouth posture.
The orthodontist can intervene to prevent or correct malocclusion and other issues during the child’s growth.
This can involve treating perioral muscle disorders, early intervention on skeletal growth alterations and mandibular posture, managing space for erupting permanent teeth, and addressing alignment issues in already erupted permanent teeth.

At what age is it advisable to have an orthodontic check-up?

We recommend a check-up between 4 and 6 years of age, when all baby teeth are still present. This is useful for detecting and intervening early on any alignment or skeletal growth issues, which may become more challenging to treat later.
It is important to assess the child at a young age to ensure proper harmony between dental and skeletal components.

Regular six-month check-ups are crucial during the growth period to monitor the development of teeth and facial structures.
During these visits, the replacement of baby teeth is also considered, as well as the need to maintain or create space for permanent teeth

When is it essential to intervene with early orthodontic treatment?

  • To correct harmful habits such as thumb-sucking, tongue thrusting, mouth breathing (in collaboration with a speech therapist), which can negatively affect tooth growth and alignment.

  • To expand the palate in cases of crossbite.

  • To correct the position of protruding upper incisors, which are more prone to trauma.
